About Our Pigs
A happy pig is a healthy pig! We love pigs and so we like to keep our pigs as happy and healthy as we can!
All our pigs are in large pens where they have free access to grazing, fresh water, mud baths and a warm dry purpose built house. We feed them on Inghams Good Ole Pig Tucker twice a day which is supplemented with milk, kumara, chicory and other veggies from the garden. In winter when the grass in their pens is a little short they get extra feed, lots of fresh sweet hay and regular access to a grazing paddock to stretch their legs.
We worm our pigs with cider vinegar, honey and garlic and their feed is supplemented with a seaweed based multi vitamin tonic.
We don’t ring, castrate or clip their teeth. We don’t use farrowing crates.
We do play with them every day, sing to them whilst we’re feeding, give them a good old scratch and generally lavish them with attention.
Berkshire Pigs
Known as the Lady’s pig, Berkshire Pigs are gentle in nature, not too large even when fully grown and generally easy to handle.
They mature quickly and are probably the best pork pig available.
Although primarily black in colour the carcass dresses out completely white and has good fat to lean meat ratios.
Ordering Pigs
You are more than welcome to pre order piglets, especially if looking for pigs from a certain bloodline but please remember pigs are not knitted, built or otherwise manufactured; what pops out, pops out!
We only register the best from each pure breed litter so please be patient, we want to make sure you get the best quality piglets possible
What a pong!
Much as we adore our pigs we realise that they can be a bit whiffy...especially when they've been on the kumara! Although we encourage you to have regular close contact with your pigs we don't necessarily encourage you to smell like them and so this month we're offering a free bar of our creamy goat's milk soap with every pig purchased. Made with the best olive oil, essential oils and other goodies we're sure you'll love it...the Nettle and Tea Tree wonder bar is especially good. A hard days graft on the block followed by a hot soak with fantastic soap...what could be better?
